Sound is a mechanical wave. It requires a medium for propagation. Since the particles in a solid are close together, the sound energy is propagated way faster in solids rather than liquids and gases whose particles are not as close.
Sound can travel through fire as it does not directly affect sound. Sound travels in waves which can pass through solid objects but this limits the distance they can go.
Sound travels further in a solid medium because the atoms are closer together. less energy is dissipated. It's an amplification of sorts.
Sound is a compression wave that travels via then vibrations of particles. If the particles are closer together then the wave (sound) moves faster. Particles are closer together in a liquid than a gas, therefore sound travels faster through liquids.
The speed of sound is determined by what it travels through. It travels faster through dense mediums, such as liquids, and doesn't travel at all in space, because there are no molecules to move sound waves along.
Sound waves travel fastest through solids, then liquids and gases. This is because sound waves requires medium in order to travel. Solid's particles are very tightly packed with each other thus sound gets more medium to travel faster. Liquid particles are less close to each other and gas is the least. Temperature also increases the speed of sound. higher the temperature, higher the speed of sound.
Solid
sound travel faster through soled because of tighter packed particles
solid
The speed of sound through a solid depends upon the density of that solid. The denser the solid, the quicker sound travels.
Sound waves travel through matter, whether solid, liquid, or gas. They do not travel through vacuum.
