∙ 13y agoIt is not smoke that you see, but rather steam. The soup is MUCH warmer than the air around it, thereby causing you to see the heat rising. Just as you can see your own breath when you walk out into the freezing cold--your breath, as you exhale is MUCH warmer than the cold air around you.
