The Bible clearly states in Galatians 3:28 that "28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
This specifically states that while humankind may be be respecters of persons, God can clearly see beyond the physical, and sees all as equal before him. I believe this is one of the main tenants that sets Christianity apart from other belief systems.
As far as the bible teaching that women are property, it may be that the Bible is simply relating a cultural belief of the time as opposed to specifying that women should in fact be considered property. Could you be specific as to a particular verse in the Bible?
