Hi, The condenser or the coil could be bad, i.e. a dead short or the ignitor, the main relay could also be shorted . Those are what I'd look at first as they are all protected by the 15A fuse.
Yes, the 2001 ignition switch for a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker will fit just fine. Other years the switch fits are 1999 to 2004.

To replace the ignition switch in a Chevy Tracker, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column covers by unscrewing the screws and carefully prying them apart. Next, locate the ignition switch, disconnect the wiring harness, and unbolt the switch from its mounting. Install the new ignition switch by reversing the process, reconnecting the wiring, and securing the steering column covers back in place.
To change the ignition switch on a 1994 Geo Tracker, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing it and then locate the ignition switch, which is typically mounted on the steering column. Disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch, remove it, and install the new ignition switch by reversing the process. Finally, reassemble the steering column cover and reconnect the battery.
The first Column ignitions switch was introduced on GM cars in 1968 for the 1969 Model year...Ford and Chrysler introduced it in 1969 for the 1970 model year..
the inertia switch locks the ignition. this can occur without the airbags being deployed. if your car wont start it is a good possibility that the inertia switch has locked the ignition. the switch is usually located on the passenger side of the vehicle behind the kick panel on the right side
If it's like a 1996 tracker the headlights won't come on unless the parking brake is released or the light switch is on.
on most cars the ignitions switch, is generally loctaed in side the steering column or under the dash above where your legs are when you are sitting in the drivers seat. Just had to have my 2000 Impala's Key cyilinder switch replaced. My mechanic explained to me that the electrical Ignition switch is directly behind the key cylinder.
To change the ignition switch on a 1997 Geo Tracker, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Remove the steering column covers by taking out the screws and bolts that secure them. Then, locate the ignition switch, disconnect the wiring harness, and unbolt the switch from its mounting. Install the new ignition switch in reverse order, reconnect the wiring, and reassemble the steering column covers before reconnecting the battery.
depends on years storm and tracker are more closely related call parts house and compare part numbers
Ignition switches have a pattern of spades on the back side that must match the replacement switch exactly otherwise you could end up blowing fuses or frying a coil. Hope this helps.
I had a 96 Stratus that would do that, and it turned out to be that the starter was bad.
