Historians agree that Babylon was conquered by the Medo-Persian empire in 539 BCE, and shortly thereafter the Jews were released to return to and reinhabit Jerusalem, which would be about 537 BCE. If one does not believe The Bible, then the date of 586/587 BCE is fine, but Jehovah's Witnesses accept the Bible as being God's written record of truth. (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17) Jerusalem was to lie desolate for 70 years, which would be 607 BCE. - 2 Chronicles 36:21; Jeremiah 25:11, 12; Daniel 9:2; Zechariah 1:12; 7:5.
