Why does the air bag light stay on all the time in your 1998 Chevrolet Malibu as I have been told it will not pass inspection if it will not turn off?

Evidently the clock spring for the air bag is defective. If you are in an accident and the airbag is not operating then they may refuse to pay for medical expenses. This is not a job for the do it yourselfer. Once the repair is made then the repair needs to be certified by a dealership.
