Where is the starter for a 2003 Yamaha raptor 660 located?

It is on top of the motor, just below the carbs. The gearing is housed on the clutch side, but the starter is bolted on the brake side. You can see a picture of the gear housing here: http://www.twitpic.com/9w6py And you can't really see the starter bolts in this photo, but they are behind the exhaust, and in a vertical position: http://www.twitpic.com/9w75v To remove the starter, disconnect the battery, the starter cable, then remove the two starter bolts on the brake side. You should then be able to pull the starter out. Mine was pretty well seized, so I took off the 4 bolts of the gear housing, carefully removed the gears, and softly smacked the end of the starter with a rubber mallet, which freed it.

Why does the starter move after you installed it on a 1976 Chevy 1 ton truck?

Assuming you are using the correct bolts for that application, the starter may require shims to align it to the ring gear properly. Originally besides the two bolts on the nose of the starter it would have also had a bracket attached from the front of the starter to the engine block.

How do you change starter on 97 Ford F350 diesel?

to change starter, first disconect battery there are 3 bolts that hold satarter to bell housing thses bolts are easiest removed using a socket on a socket extension you will need to remove wires from front of starter before removing starter. be sure to make sure replacement starter has the same nuber of teeth on gear or starter will not mesh with ring gear. note if you have a spacer between bell housing and starter when removing old starter. this spacer if there is one, needs to be reinstalled with new starter. after removal of the bolts the starter can be pilled from bell housing and new one installed when replacing bolts in starter , tighten evenly or the started will be installed crooked and will wear out gears re attach wires at starter reconnect battery cbles should be good to go

Why does my car grind when I turn on the ignition when i release key after starting there's no grinding?

First check for loose mounting bolts at starter. If everything is OK, then remove starter and check for broken teeth on starter pinion gear and flywheel.

What would cause a starter to squeal when you tighten the bolts but as soon as you loosen the top bolt it stops?

Some starters must have shims installed to establish the proper clearance between the starter gear and the ring gear. Your starter may be too close, and the gear teeth are interfering. Most repair manuals will have the procedure to check this. Not all starters are shimmed, you will have to do a little research to find out if yours is.
