The breakup that happened over 10 years ago still haunts you because you let it. AA has a saying, "Do not let someone live in your head rent free." You have been letting that person live in your head rent free. It is time you realized that!
Sometimes we must forgive. Yes it is all that other idiots fault. But forgiving that idiot can also get rid of garbage inside of us that we did not realize we had.
Jesus said, "Blessed are those who morn for they shall be comforted." It is time to realize the relationship is dead. It is time to take a little time and morn. Take some time. Read the 23rd Psalm. Pronounce the relationship dead. Mourn. And then symbolically bury it. You are now free.

In my experience, when we are bothered by something that happened, or didn't happen, in the past it is because there is something that was out of your control. When you look back, you can always find something that might have made the difference and it leads you to ponder its possible effect on the outcome. But the truth is, you moved on--went forward--and here you are! Accept that and keep looking to the future. Of course, this event will come back to your mind periodically, but don't let it stay long--it is just a memory.
