Why does the fan for the heat and aircon in my 2003 Jeep Liberty only work on the highest setting despite the air con working fine otherwise?

You need to replace the blower motor resistor. It's located behind the glove box. The part was about $20 from the dealer, and it took about 20 minutes to install. Take off the glove box and you'll see the wiring you need to unplug. There are two bolts to remove and the resistor will come out. The high setting (4) on the fan runs off the battery, but the other three settings run through the resistor. This is why it works on high, but not the other settings. I replaced mine about six months ago and haven't had a problem since.
