Defective oil pressure sending unit or the oil pump is defective.
When a person turns their car on, the dashboard lights should turn off. However, if they do not, it means there is a problems. An oil light will stay on if there is low oil in a car.
Possibly bad oil pump, too heavy weight of oil, incorrect filter. Sensor for the oil light could malfunction
oil flow restriction or weak oil pump
it usually turns the light on in the dash to let you know your car does not ave enough oil pressure.
One possibility is that your sensor is defective and needs replacement...
It's an oil pressure warning light, not an oil level warning light. If your oil level gets low enough to cause a drop in oil pressure, you're basically running dry.Take it to a mechanic.
The light you refer to is not a low oil level light. It indicates low oil pressure. You may have plenty of oil in the engine but you have low oil pressure. Can be weak oil pump, worn bearings, or can be just a defective oil pressure sending unit.
It takes a while before the system registers that there is good oil in your car/truck.
it starts but the oil light stay on
Which oil light? There are two on most cars. One of them is a "best practices" recommendation, the other one is notification that you have a serious problem. If your oil pressure is low enough to trigger that light, it means that you're either literally or effectively out of oil, and driving a car in that condition for even a short distance will ruin your engine.
If your engine light has come on for your 1993 GMC Jimmy, you need to take you car in for service. You should make sure that you have enough oil in your car.
Make sure you are not using a heavy oil in that car the oil light will stay on and the car wont register you have oil in it till it warms up and that is bad when the oil sending unit isn't getting oil to your lifters and pistons.
