I read the book and loved it so.... She opened the door and went down the stairs to a 'parallel' universe almost the same as her old house/world. Her parents (or likely replicas) had sewn on buttons for eyes though but they were very nice to Coraline. Coraline still wanted to search for her parents though but wasn't allowed to escape back. She made friends with a cat who bit by bit told her clues. Her new mother though wanted to sew buttons on Coraline's eyes. The cat told her if this happened she would have to stay there forever and Coraline did not want to. Coraline has to make a big decision. What will she do?

The story behind Coraline is that this little girl (Coraline) find a family that looks just like hers but better. She then loves the world but the only way she can stay is if she gets buttons in her eyes. She refuses and then gets traped but at the end evrything is back to normal

The Other Mother is like Coralines real mother exept better. Or at least that's what Coraline thinks. The Other Mother soon turns evil and wicked and traps Coraline behind a mirror so that Coraline dies and the Other Mother feeds on her.
