There is no official rules on how the wear the poppy. The leaf appears on English poppies but not on Scottish ones. Also the Royal British Legion has produced metals pins and some years the leaf has been at the 1 o'clock position. When I was in the army, not once were we told that the leaf had to be at the 11 o'clock position. This is a 'legend' that has come to fruition over the last few years. Maybe the British Legion will make a rule one day regarding the leaf but as of today there is no ruling or etiquette regarding the leaf.

The poppy should be worn on the left hand side. The leaf should be worn at the 11 o'clock position to signify the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...the day war ended and the day we all remember.

In England Wales, and Northern Ireland remembrance day poppies are mostly paper representatives of the flat Earl Haig attributed design, a flat two petal poppy with a leaf made in Richmond Surrey. (The Car Poppy sold by the Royal British Legion has no leaf). In Scotland remembrance day poppies have four petals and no design has a leaf, they are made by poppyscotland. Countries around the world have other designs. The only significance of the leaf, or no leaf poppy is that it may give a clue to the country where the poppy was, or was not, manufactured. There are no rules governing how, or where to wear a poppy, nor the angle of the leaf if present.

You really need to ask the English. Poppies do not have green leaves like that. The Scottish poppy is a more accurate representation. I believe the green leaf is supposedly for asthetic purposes, but it's a mystery to me. The English are correct poppy is worn over the heart and the leaf is worn at the 11 o'clock position to signify the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The date and time war ended and the date and time we all remember. It is not for aesthetic purposes!
