I do not think the president has too much power because he has a limited amount of power. He still has to report some stuff to congress before he can follow through on some of the actions he wants to. This means he can't just go into war if he wanted to. He would have to present to congress why the war is necessary. Also, another reason why i think he may not have too much power is because he is a person like us and the laws apply to him to. Despite what some people may think.Yeah he gets away with some stuff that we as people, not president, wouldn't. But don't get it wrong if he was to murder someone he would get charged and most likely impeached. That would aslo probably happen if he was to withhold information like Nixon did.

The power to pardon is given by the US Constitution as ratified by the states.

(If you want to know why it was given, I think it is because it is a power that kings traditionally have and it provides a last resort appeal in case that justice was not done by the courts. Most state governors also can pardon people for state crimes.

The president is the representative of the country as a whole, and thus should be entrusted with the power to exercise that country's will. This includes the ability to pardon.
