Your pupils change size to let in either less or more light to let you see.
So if you close your eyes for about a minute your pupils will become larger because no light is getting to them, however if you look into a light your pupils will shrink so as not to let to much light in.

∙ 12y agoThe pupil is not an object, it's a hole, that's why it's black. The pupil regulates the amount of light that enters your eye. If the amount of light is low, your eyes need alot of light to see whats happening, and your pupils dialate. IF the amount of light is high, your pupils shrink in order to remain seeing the difference between light colors and to prevent damage to the eye. Try it yourself by looking in the mirror and holding your hand above your eye, so that the light doesn't reach it that well. It's quite funny

∙ 13y agoYour pupils change size dependant on how much light they are getting, if they are getting lots if light then they decrease in size, as they are receiving too much light, so obviously when they don't get enough light they increase in size!
For example if you were sitting in a pitch black room, your pupils would be massive!
If someone shined a torch in your eyes your pupils would decrease!

∙ 13y agoI have been looking around on the internet and i have found out that cats and kittens eyes change size and shape do to how much lighting is around and the amount of lighting. I have noticed my cat's eyes have been changing into full and round pupils and into thin slits.

In bright-light - the pupil contracts to restrict the mount of light entering the eye - to protect the retina.
