The wind you are referring to is the localised breeze felt on and near the shoreline. During the day, when the sun shines, the land warms up more quickly than the sea, so the air over the land warms, expands and becomes less dense so it rises. Cooler air from over the sea moves in to replace it, and we feel a cooling sea breeze. As night falls, the land and the air over it cool more rapidly than the sea and its air, so pretty soon the situation is reversed and air flows out from the land. This is the land breeze.

What is break down voltage?

A rectifier diode normally allows current to pass in one direction (the forward direction), and almost no current in the opposite direction (the "reverse" direction). The diode is designed to work up to a certain voltage; if more than a certain voltage is applied in the reverse direction, it will "break down", and suddenly a large current will flow. This can irreparably damage the rectifier diode, unless it is of a type specifically designed to operate in the breakdown region - i.e., a Zener diode.

How do you get a window to work on a 1989 Ford Bronco?

How is the sand moved from beach to beach by waves?

As the waves move over the sand, they stir it up and some of it becomes entrained in the water. As the waves retreat, they take some sand with them. The water mixes out away from the beach with other water and then when it flows back up onto the beach, it doesn't land in quite the same place that it did the first time. On average, the water is moving in one direction parallel to the beach, so the entrained sand gradually moves in that direction too - thus sand bars migrate down rivers and ocean beach sand moves up the coast (or down depending on the prevailing currents).

Why do waves at the beach often strike parallel to the shore despite the fact that the wind is blowing the waves in at an angle?

There are many factors that determine the direction that waves take. Out in deep water, wind and surface currents affect the direction of waves. When you get closer to the coast the shape and contour of the earth's surface affects the wave's direction more.As a wave becomes shallow it slows down. If the wave is at an angle to the shallow part of the shore, the wave bends and becomes more parallel to the beach. Also most beaches are not actually straight, they curve so there are parts of the wave that are parallel to the shore.

What is the idiomatic expression of to back down?

Think of two fighters facing one another, ready to start hitting each other. If one of them backs down, they step away from the other one, away from the fight. To back down means to reverse your direction. This can be literal, as in stepping back from someone. It is often figurative, though, and means to reverse your previous statements and support another one instead. For example, if you had been arguing that you deserved a raise, and your boss pointed out that you had been late to work almost every day, you might back down and stop arguing.

How do you create friction in space for movement?

You can't create friction in space. To slow down you are going to hace to reverse you direction by starting an engine on the opposite direction. To goto the right or left, you want to start engines on the side to push the rocket that way.

What force causes a moving object to slow down?

Any force that acts in a direction opposite to the movement. Quite often, this will be friction.
