Why does tilt steering affect turn signals and brake lights on 02 ford ranger?

The turn signal wiring goes up the steering column. Turn signal bulbs are also used as brake lights and the brake light signal goes through the turn signal switch. If there is a loose connection or worn wire in the steering column, the tilt would cause problems.

The problem that I had with my 2001 Ranger rebuild was I had tail-lights and back up lights along with brake lights. No turn signals or hazard lights. More than likely, it is a bad turn signal control arm. There is also a relay box under the dash. My problem was that the relay had gotten wet and had rusted inside.
