Warm water contains less dissolved oxygen than cold-water. In order to compensate for this change, a goldfish must increase its breathing rate in order to receive the same amount of oxygen it was getting in the colder water. Adding a source of aeration to an aquarium which has undergone a rise in temperature will greatly reduce, if not take away, the need for a goldfish to increase its breathing rate.

fish breathe faster in warm water than cold water is because fish are cold blooded. if the temperature of the water is colder then the heart rate of the fish falls. if the fish is in warm water, than the heart rate of the fish will go up, causing the fish to breathe faster.

There is more oxygen in cold water. Thus, fish have to breathe faster in warm water to get more oxygen.
