Water Drains Quickly From sand because Sand has Fibers in it that absorb nutrients and there are tiny absorbents inside the grains of sand that absorb the water to help keep it hydrated. (Much like fertilizer that absorbs water to help plants grow) Good Luck :)

Water passes quickly through sand because the ratio of pore space to volume of material (known as porosity) is higher than other more densely packed soils. This is because grains of sand are larger than silt or clay; this allows for more space for water to flow. The tiny spaces act like little pipes that let water flow between the tiny grains of sand. Imagine a box full of tennis balls. There is more space for water to flow through, then an equivalent box of ping pong balls or marbles (comparable to silt and clay respectively).

How does the size of the sand effect the flow through the hourglass?

The size of the sand will go into play with many other factors. If the size of the neck is narrow and the size of the sand is wide, it will take longer for the sand to pass through. This can also be reversed. If the size of the neck is wide and the size of the sand is narrow, the sand will be able to pass through quickly.

Which soil will water pass through fastest?

sand

Why water can pass through large sand particles?

Sandy soil stays loose that is there is nothing in it that sticks the grains together that is water proof. Some soils have a lot of clay or other material that has the effect off sicking the sand together these soils tend to hold water for a longer time.

How come water passes through sand better than clay?

because sand has small grains and allows water to travel through it. Clay has smaller grains than sand and doesn't allow water to travel through it quickly.

Does water pass through sand?

The water molecules are far smaller than the spaces between the sand grains and can easily slip through, gravity pulls the water down.

Why does water pass slowly in clay?

Because the pores, or air spaces, between particles are much smaller in clay than in silt, loam, or sand. The water simply can't get through very quickly.

When sand and water are exposed to the same radiation sand becomes hotter than water. Why?

Sand absorbs a higher percentage of the radiation than water does. Water reflects more radiation and allows more radiation to pass through it than sand does.

What is an example of a mixture that can be separated by filtration in the laboratory?

It must be a combination of two or more substances, only one of which can pass through the filter. An example of this is fruit cocktail in syrup. The syrup can pass thru a porous paper filter, but not the fruit.

How do you remove sand and sugar?

Add water, and the sugar will dissolve leaving the sand as a solid. Filter that mixture and the sand will stay on the filter paper and the water and sugar will pass through. Evaporate the water, and you'll be left with sugar only.

Why does sand on a beach cool down at night more quickly than the water?

I think what you are trying to say is the sand on a beach cools down easier at more quickly then the ocean water because of convection status, this makes the cool water much more cool then in the ocean water because of radiation.

How do you separate sulfur sand iron filings?

Iron fillings has the property of being magnetic, so you could pass it through a magnetic drum to remove it leaving sulfur and sand. Since sulfur is a solute it will dissolve in water leaving sand and forming a solution. You can then pass that through a filter separating the sand and the solution containing water and sulfur. Now you can put the solution in an evaporating basin to evaporate the water leaving the sulfur.

Why does water pass easily through sandy soil?

Sand is small particles of solid rock, that don't have the ability to absorb moisture. The water runs right through it.
