That guy's answer was really bad, anyway you get the red rings when your system has a malfunction. Such as the hard drive may not be connected correctly or your system has overheated. The 3 red rings are the most common, they occur when the 360's motherboard gets to hot and the solderings that hold the motherboard in place break off, and the three red rings appear. This most oftentimes happens because of the last of the space that the parts require, the CD drive takes over the space of the cooling fan but in the case of the elite the fan takes over the space of the drive, which causes a problem.

Also what can happen is the soldering that connects the plates that bring heat out of the motherboard to the fan can cool them has melted and is not absorbing heat.
This can be fixed by taking the xbox apart to the bare motherboard and popping off the X-clamps (careful with the X-clamps, I accidentally scratched my motherboard).
Then take off the part that has the plates sticking up by the fan. Then use Arctic Silver #5 to re-solder the chips to the plate. That should fix it.

Q: What are hack names for the computer. A: Dont know. Q Do the XBox 360 Red Rings Of Death (<--- it's not fire it's death) exist?. A: Yes they exist i got Red Rings Of Death (RROD) once and it's not fun at all.
3 red rings (of death). Call xbox and get it sent back to them, they will fix it and send it back in 2weeks! GL.
the red rings of death means your xbox wont work because its over heated and the whole thing has just shut down
you cant fix a red ring of death. this means your xbox has bit the dust, and you have to get a new one around 360 dollars.
The three rings of death generally appear on the Xbox 360. These three rings mean that there is an internal problem with the Xbox. Unplug the device and have it looked at.
Call Microsoft (1-800-4my-xbox) and they tell you from there
1/3 of every xbox 360 gets it, mine got it a month ago and it sucked
You should take it to a local xbox repairer but not Bungee because they charge like $150 unless you have a warranty.
That's what a lot of people are saying,"Oh no!! The red rings of death appeared on my Xbox. Now it dead forever!" However, most of these people are wrong. I believe if you look in the Xbox manuel, the red lights have codes. Like my Xbox had red lights on the third and first player ring sections. However, this meant my Xbox overheated and came back to life in 3 hours.
Yes, most likely the hard drive was not affected by the red rings of death.
