Clutch out of adjustment or worn/damaged clutch brake. Or you're just not hitting the gears right.
There are several things that can cause your 1999 Ford Ranger to grind when you put it into gear. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid.
how do you put gear shift back into 1993 ford f-150 5 speed transmission
the likage and cables probably need some lube a dragging clutch will make it grind when trying to put in gear also if the clutch is hydraulic operated, it may be low on hydraulic fluid due to a leak in the system.
put my mum on the seat and grind
Well how well do you shift if you grind your gears alot you are grinding ff the points on the gears hence its harder to put in gear.
3rd gear is bad, must put new gear in or replace transmission.
If it is automatic and it grinds, that means you must come to a complete stop before shifting into reverse, or your transmission is no good

Well just put on first gear and do a burnout. You will get a headstart. Your speed will be at 60 km/h. Then continue this step. You will be fast!!!
if its a 5 speed turn the key on give it a push and put it in gear and it will start if its an automatic then no
I'd use 90w gear oil..
