The Cougar is based on the Mystic/Contour chassis and is a fairly heavy car. The 24-valve Duratec V6 rated at 170 horsepower and 165 foot-pounds of torque is just not powerful enough to break traction with the A/T installed. The law of physics comes into play here. Too much mass for the amount of power available.
