May need new belt but also may just be loose. I had the same problem with my 98, bought a new belt and installed, came loose after a few months. I think the bolt that holds the tension by the alternator is not beefy enough to hold tension and vibrates loose.
can you change the alternator belt in a 1998 Chevy metro from under the car.
The squeal is often caused by the power steering belt slipping. Check the serpentine belt to see if it needs replacement.
if it is a belt squeal, check and replace the serpentine belt and or the tensioner.
Chevy Metro 2001 (1.3 L) has a timing belt - hard driving conditions require its replacement at 60,000 miles, otherwise the timing belt replacement is scheduled for 100,000 miles.
chevy
sounds like the belt. one of your pulleys might be loose also. so check your belt and everything it touches.
Change the belt
Change the belt
Chain.
Yes you can.
glazing of the belt may cause that noise time to replace, little bit of dish soap will take it away
The belt will not generally squeal, but the water pump often makes a "Scrapy-scrapy-scrapy" sound.
