Retrievers come in a variety of hair types and thicknesses. Regionally judges differ in what they like as well. We prefer the less hair types as they are easier to care for. A working Golden will have less hair because it gets less burrs etc from the fields. A show Golden can have more and longer hair because it does not work but is for --show. Requires daily brushing and more baths.

Is golden retriever puppy hair less allergy causing than adult golden retriever hair?

No, they are not, because they are the same kind of dog, just younger or older. I agree but in a way i disagree because an older dog sheds much more than a puppy because of course they have longer and much more hair.

What is a Flat-coated Retriever?

Flatcoats come in YELLOW/BLACK/BROWN for more info go to: www.chathamhillkennels.comThe Flat-Coated Retriever is one of the least known purebred breeds. While many people are familiar with the more popular Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever, the Flat-Coat has similarities as well as differences from those Retrievers. The similarities are the happy-go-lucky attitude, the playfulness, and the strong family bond it makes. However, there are 3 major differences between the Flat-Coat Retriever and the Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever:#1: Flat-Coated Retrievers do not have an undercoat to shed; therefore, they shed less than the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever.#2: The Flat-Coat is considered to be relatively inactive indoors, whereas, the Goldens and Labs are moderately active indoors.#3: Goldens and Labs, due to the thicker bone structure, weigh more than the Flattie.

Would a Bernese Mountain Dog or a Golden Retriever be a better dog for beginners?

Both the Bernese Mountain dog and the Golden Retriever would make a great dog for a beginner. Bernese Mountain dogs tend to shed less but are slightly less social around strangers than the Golden. The Golden does require more trimming/clipping than the Bernese however they are easier to train and don't grow to be giant like the Bernese. Both of these dogs are just about equal so whichever one you choose is going to be determined by your own personal preference.

Can you get a shorthaired golden retriever?

No. Goldens have medium-length hair with varying amounts of feathering. (Feathering is longer hair on certain spots ... Google some images of Golden Retrievers and you will see differences in the amount of feathering.) If you want a short-haired retriever get a Labrador Retriever .. they have short hair all over without feathering. (Labs are more energetic and somewhat less easier to train than Goldens though.) Just a thought .... but if you are looking for a "shorthaired Golden" because you think short-haired dogs shed less .... that is NOT at all true!! That is a persistent myth for some strange reason but it has absolutely NO basis in reality. Short hair does NOT mean the dog will automatically shed less. In fact, most short-haired dog breeds shed far MORE than Goldens ... examples are Dalmations and Corgis. Both those breeds shed FAR more than Goldens ... they just shed a lot of shorter hairs! Another fact is that most non-shedding breeds also happen to have the LONGEST hair ... like Maltese and Shih Tzu breeds.

Which is better Labrador Retriever or Golden Retriever?

Personal opinion - 1. they are both hunting/sporting dogs with a similar specialty. 2. it depends on your intended use - sport, protection, working dog, or just family. I find the Labrador to be easier to manage and train all the way around and less of a mess to groom and clean (short hair vs long hair). I love golden's they are great dogs with generally a great disposition. However I find them to not be the most intelligent dogs I have ever worked with. training can be a bit of a challenge. Your results may vary !

How much does a medium golden retriever cost at petsmart?

Don't consider it, Petsmart has outrageous prices on cats/dogs although they are supposed to have papers, for a family pet it doesn't matter, Look up your local shelter's online website or go in person. You can save one's life and get one for less than 25.00 most likely.

Are golden doodles endangered?

No, they aren't endangered. Actually, they aren't a breed, rather they are a popular cross of a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. Because they aren't a true breed of dog, there isn't a breed standard of how any Goldendoodle will look. Some look more "golden" and less "oodle" than others.

How much money does a golden doodle dog cost?

Golden doodles are a golden retriever and a poodle mix breed. Their prices can range any where from 300 to 3500. Depending on their size, fur quality and things like that.

What colours does the Labrador Retriever come in?

Labs come in black, yellow (cream to a reddish color), chocolate (shades of darker brown), and the less popular black-and-tan. (Yellow is often mistakenly called silver or golden.)

Your fiance really wants a golden retriever puppy but you live in Florida and have heard how much goldens shed Does anybody know if there is a golden mix breed out there that will shed less?

I believe I've heard of a golden poodle mix. They are hypo allergenic and i don't think they shed very much. If you can't find one i'd suggest a labradoodle. It's a labrador poodle mix. Another thing you could try is frequently combing the golden. it gets out all the extra hair. Just put it in a bag and throw it away. That should cut down on shedding. When it comes down to it though my opinion is a golden is well worth the shedding.
