The starter may require shims to correct that. The ring gear and or the flywheel may be damaged also.

On a 2wd 1991 Jimmy S15 the starter is under the motor. The easiest way to replace one is to jack up the front end with a floor jack which will give clearance above the tires. Above the passenger tire you will see the starter under the exhaust manifold, you can get to the wires this way. Then you get under the truck and take the two starter bolts out
