Dogs bark to express their feeling, like we human beings talk to each other and explain our difficulties. They bark because they want to talk to other dogs or people (usually their owners). They bark for many reasons:To express a need to relieve themselvesAs a warning to intrudersAs a territorial announcement to other dogsBecause they require sustenance (food or water)They want affection or attentionThey are cold/hot/otherwise uncomfortableThey are startledOther dogs are barkingThey detect unfamiliar sounds or scents - dogs and other animals have shown that they are sensitive to early signs of storms, tornadoes, and earthquakesOne of the cats is in the dog's food dish or the water dish
Bichons may bark at runners due to their instinctive protective nature, perceiving them as potential threats or intruders in their territory. The rapid movement of runners can trigger a dog's prey drive, prompting a response to alert their owner. Additionally, if your bichon hasn’t been socialized with runners, they may simply be reacting out of curiosity or fear. Regular exposure and positive reinforcement can help reduce this behavior.
The Bichon Frise is also known as the Bichon à poil frisé and the Bichon Tenerife. It is often nicknamed the Bichon for short.
