Dogs bark to express their feeling, like we human beings talk to each other and explain our difficulties. They bark because they want to talk to other dogs or people (usually their owners).

They bark for many reasons:

  • To express a need to relieve themselves
  • As a warning to intruders
  • As a territorial announcement to other dogs
  • Because they require sustenance (food or water)
  • They want affection or attention
  • They are cold/hot/otherwise uncomfortable
  • They are startled
  • Other dogs are barking
  • They detect unfamiliar sounds or scents - dogs and other animals have shown that they are sensitive to early signs of storms, tornadoes, and earthquakes
  • One of the cats is in the dog's food dish or the water dish
