That is how the car communicates a transmission problem if you couldn't feel it.
You didn't state weather it was an Automatic or Manual transmission. Well any way they are both on the transmission. Manual transmission has a separate switch for the backup lights the automatic is built into the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Automatic switch is about $50.00. Manual switch is about $10.00. Hope you have a manual it is a lot cheaper.
A gearbox problem on a Renault Scenic Automatic could mean something as simple as cleaning the transmission screen. There are many things that could be going on. If the warning lights come on after the vehicle is driven for a while, it could be that the transmission is overheating due to low fluid. A mechanic will have to look at it to determine the extent of the malfunction.
If you have an automatic transmission it is on top of he steering column just before it goes through the firewall. If you have a manual transmission it is on the transmission.

No. The GEM is associated with things like power windows, indicator lights, and the alarm.
Had the same problem, it was the automatic idler valve. Not an expensive part and easily changed.
The problem is the reverse light switch. It is located on the top of the transmission that should sloved your problem.
I had the same problem. Except that the transmission was not shifting as well. It was the transmission control module. It cost me about $450 to fix at the dealership 4yrs ago. I have had no problems since.
