Best Answer
For 2 reasons I have observed.
1: Searching for a particular seed they like.
2: In hens it can be a nesting behavior.

How do you know when your budgie is hungry?

If your budgie goes to eat from the food bowl then it's obviously hungry. Always check the bowls to see if there is actual food or just the hulls from the seeds. Your budgie may also sometimes go to the bottom of the cage and start eating there so make sure there is food in the bowls. Another way is to feel your budgies crop, which is like their stomach. If it feels like a big lump it means they are full or have already eaten. Your budgie may also make sounds or depending on how tamed/trained it is, make gestures for you to check it's food bowls. Also make sure to always have clean water because they do poop and take baths in there from time to time.

How do you care for nesting budgie?

Budgies are simple to take care of but read these hints and instructions very carefully: 1. Give your budgie a safe and large enough cage. 2. Give your budgie plenty of fun toys. Replace the toys regularly so your budgie doesn't get bored. Leave your budgie's favorite toy inside. 3. Give your budgie check-ups at the vet at least once a month. 4. Feel your budgie's breastbone (or wishbone) everyday to make sure your budgie isn't fat. You cannot feel the breastbone if your budgie is fat. 5. Give your budgie high-quality food. 6. Replace your budgie's water EVERYDAY! 7. Clean your budgie's cage every week. 8. Have your budgie stay outside the cage WITH YOUR SUPERVISION! 9. Feel your budgie's food (or look) for seeds that have not been eaten or it will starve. 10. Enjoy the budgie!

Where is the budgie in a food chain?

Food chains differ from where they take place, such as in lakes, or in the ocean. On land, the budgie, or parakeet would fall into the same spot all other wild birds are in, in that they are eaten by predators that hunt and eat small wild birds.
