Because the air handler and ductwork are full of warm air from not running and cooling is not instantaneous upon start up. It takes 2 or 3 minutes of run time for the unit to begin cooling.
Had the same prob. A lot of units 10 years or less have two separate heating strips when you first turn on the unit both are active once it reaches desired temp it alternates between the two to save on power. If one of these is bad it will blow cold when it cycles to it and warm back up when it switches to the other if it is still functioning. Hope this helps
The evaporator coil is probably frozen. Shut off the outdoor unit and run the fan only until it thaws out. Then call the service man and tell him what you did, there is no point in paying him to stand around while the ice melts and there is nothing he can diagnose until the ice is gone.
The outdoor portion of the central ac unit is what gives up the heat from indoors, so it has to be outside. For a more thorough explanation see the question: How does air conditioning work.
why does the fan still run on the unit after it cycles is over. but it is blowing hot air not cold
your outside unit is buzzing because the low voltage control signal is activating the switch " the contactor" but your unit for some reason is not starting thus no cool air. either your circuit breaker is tripped or you may have other more serious problems. call a licensed hvac service contractor.
why does ac blow warm air? why does ac blow warm air?
Check upstairs heating unit.
Your average A/C unit blows heat through all vents.
it could be the heater core and ac housing unit that allows hot air to be mixed with the cold air or it could just cancel out the cold due to the motion of the car
If the unit started it`s probably not the stat.
unit could be low of refridgent,or valve for heater not closing complety There can be other problems, but these twowould be the ones i would start with.
Check the filter. If in doubt filter is working , remove filter and verify A/C continues to mal-function.
There are a few reasons why a central air unit is not blowing cold air. The coils may be dirty, the unit may need freon, or the thermostat could be broken.
check your thermocoupler. It will not let the gas flow if it is faulty. Easy fix too.
If the unit works in the heat mode, then the problem is usually located in the outdoor unit.
You may need to recharge the cooling chemical in your unit.
It could be that the unit is overcharged and the compressor is shutting down on overload. Check to see if the compressor is running when the hot air starts blowing.
