If you have the older mouse with the roller ball, the gears may be grinding. Perhaps it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Or, because of designed obselescence, perhaps it is nearing the time for it to break so that you will have to spend your money buying a new mouse. I went through several of these mice before Wal-Mart quit selling them, so I had no choice but to take a chance on the new high-tech laser mouse. It has been working very well, and silently, ever since.
