Very simply, what you are doing is restricting blood flow and oxygen to your apendage, In this case your finger. As a result blood and oxygen is decreased from travelling from arteries and veins,to arterioles and venules in your finger causing the yellow and white appearance you stated. In the case of complete stoppage of blood and oxygen flow to any area of the body will lead to ischemia ( Tissue death), and gangrene, resulting in a dark and then to black discoloration.
