Gerbils mucas is red. People often mistake it for blood. Chances are the gerbil's nose is just irritated, but if it is prolonged it could be caused by an allergy from the bedding or nesting materials used. If this is so switch beddings and see what works. Also make sure all nesting material is unfragranced or dyes because they are known to irritate gerbils.
Often gerbils are thought to have blood noses, this is simply because their mucus is a reddish tinged color. So in fact they may not have a bloody nose. Make sure they are not wiping their mucus onto their paws or they have a cold and need to be taken to a vet. If there is fur or skin missing off of the top of the nose you need to use Carefresh, Aspen, or Eco friendly bedding because they could be allergic to their current bedding. You stop it. Simple. There are many ways to stop it. If you have lots of paper (napkins, toilet paper, tissues), you should blow your nose first to get the blood out. Then, you can lean backwords and pinch your nose in between your eyes, but some say that that makes the blood go to your throat. You can also lean forward and pinch your nose hard so it hurts to try to stop it, or pinch your nose at the bottom, or pinch it lightly. Pinch for a short while and check the blood. Then, when the blood is gone, put vaseline in your nose.
A cold may be able to indirectly cause a bloody nose. Simply put, if your boogers harden, they might be able to puncture the inside skin of your nose, causing a bloody nose.
