This could just be a benign tumour (not cancerous) or a cyst, which are usually harmless providing they don't obstruct the hamster's usual behavior or organs. However, it could be cancerous, and hamsters are small enough for the cancer to spread quickly and viciously. Vets could remove the lump, but hamsters are tiny and the anesthetic could kill them just as easily as the lump itself.

wrong. guinea pigs have a sweat gland on their butts right where you'd imagine a tail to be. males secret a waxy substance from this gland which can build up and mat their fur. it's important to keep this area clean and well-groomed because the gland can become infected. it's ok if the fur around the area is a little clumpy or waxy just make sure to comb it and trim the hair around it if a mat forms.

∙ 14y agoThis can be very serious in hamsters. It can cause them great pain. Often it is because their intestines have become twisted. The best thing you can do now is to take it to the vets immediately.
