If your hand burns and then goes numb while you sleep it is Carpal Tunnel syndrome. This can be caused by repetitve movements of the hand-usually involving years of physical labour, such as scrubbing, typing, lifting, hammering etc. It also causes uncomfort in your wrist area, causing the thumb and index to constanly go numb, objects falling from your hands due to lost of grip and strength. Also if you feel something like electrical shocks running down the middle of your palm and shooting into your fingers it is Carpal Tunnel. Sometimes your fingers can spontaneously spasm usually the small finger. The pain can also shoot up to your elbow down your forearm. At night it is especially uncomftrable as your hand goes completely numb and as you hold a newspapr or hold your cup of coffee it goes to sleep you must shake it to "wake-up" it is Carpal Tunnel. Also if the Carpal tunnel is in your dominanat hand writing will also cause uncomfort. If you are only gettting these symptoms at night- then this could be begining stages...if your jobs involves alot of labour or typing constant use of your hands then I suggest you get checked out. Also keep in mind that your employer by law needs to offer you workers compensation for all medical expenses and if it is severe and your boss refuses to help you you will need to get an attorney to help advocate for you. I know this because I was diagnosed with the same thing and went through a hell of alot before I understood the system.
