ALL SD and SDHC cards are supplied with an integral switch to prevent accidental erasure of the data stored on it.
Memory cards typically contain a small switch. One of the switches states will lock the memory card, preventing data from being written, erased, or changed on it. The other state will allow you to freely edit the contents of the memory card. Unlocking the memory card is usually just a matter of flicking the switch on it.

Yes, the USB memory card readers lock switch can prevent any unnecessary writes to the SD memory cards.
Because it got corrupt, or you got it wet. or if you have a cheap card you have the lock on.
take the memory card out of the camera and push the little yellow lock upwards to unlock it.
The USB memory card reader can be responsible for write protecting the SD memory cards through its Lock switch.

You can just set the contents inside to Read Only, if you are using a memory card reader there is also a lock button
If you are using it with the SD adaptor, the swith at the side marked lock is not to secure the micro sd card within the adaptor. This is the write protection. If you set this to the 'unlocked' position (up) then you should be able to write files onto it! very good thanks
There should be a small lock button on the side of the memory card. Its probably locked.
The LED indicator on USB memory card readers does not monitor the read and write activities but the Lock switch.
