it either doesnt like you or it has a certain need or problem.
He's hungry!
if you mean catch a parakeet and put it in a cage in the zoo , then yes.
They nibble on food, fingers, and almost anything you put in their cage. You can put a wooden block in your rat's cage for them to chew on. Never put you finger in a very fiesty rat's cage or it will bite you and it will hurt. Badly.
. . . in a cage would be smart
if you have more than one
Parakeets bite for many reasons. Did you just get your parakeet and he is scared? Perhaps your parakeet is very protective over a certain toy. It could also be because they are pregnant or are protective of it's other parakeet friend. Are you feeding your parakeet? Cleaning his cage, feeding him things other than seeds? You have to put yourself in your parakeets shoes, because depending on an individual bird they may bite for various reasons.
It all depends on what bird you have, I had a parakeet so there were little buckets that you put in the cage and filled with bird feed. If it is a larger bird you can probably hold it out in your hand, obviously don't do this with small bird feed, but do this with something larger such as a grape. (I only say this because my bird loved grapes) If it is a smaller bird and it is a treat just put it in the cage (try to do this quickly, my bird was nasty and if she saw a hand she would tried to bite you, and she would bite with all of her birdy might!) If it is a humming bird maybe you could put something sweet like honey on your finger. Hope this helps!
Yes some say it will quiet the bird.
If you're asking how to introduce them, here's how. Take them out and put them in a different cage. Keep them there for a few days, then put them in the old cage. make sure you have two food and water dishes-- one for each of them. Then, they will not get territorial and fight to the death. Or, you could just put a cage divider in until they get used to each other.
training a parakeet takes practice and patience. it took me 4 months to fully train mine but if your willing to put in the extra time it can be fun. First get them used to human skin put your hand in or on the side of your cage. After doing this for 1-2 weeks you can take the parakeet out of the cage. Gently scoop it out with a towel then place it in your lap it may fly off your lap a few times but eventually it will stay on. Once it is able to stay in one spot try to take your finger and put pressure on it's belly it will place it's feet on your finger while it is on your finger it may peck at you a few times this does not mean that you've done something wrong it is just feeling around you are it's new favorite perch the more you take it out the longer it will stay on your finger.
We used to put a piece of celery top--the leafy part--in the cage for ours.
Probably in the corner or next to a window. Somewhere it would have its own space.
maybe not . . .I think
