the reason why your period stops when you are pregnant is because your body produces and enzyme called progesterone. progesterone make ovaries stop producings eggs and for the follicles not to release another egg. also the main reson why is because on of your eggs that you've release became fertile with a sperm cell.
the reason why you get your period is because your body (ovaries) produce eggs (called ova or ovum) and is released ever 28-30 days because it is not fertile by a sperm cell. hope i helped!
