Well, If you use a Macintosh it will show up on the desktop. If you are using a Windows based PC you can always find your DVD drive in "My Computer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista)... If you enable "AutoRun" you should get a dialog box asking what you want to do each time you insert a disc (XP / Vista).
Depending on the software you have, the DVD burner icon will only appear when there is a disc in the drive that is capable of being burned.
To insert a DVD into a MacBook Pro, simply locate the DVD drive on the side of the laptop. Gently push the DVD into the drive until it clicks and the drive pulls it in. The DVD should then appear on your desktop and you can access its contents.

The Hybernation function of windows XP doesnt work very well. Dont use it, and this wont happen.
When you insert a DVD is will show up either on the desktop as an icon or it will show up on the left in Finder. Simply drag the image and drop it on the icon. It will be copied to the DVD disc.
Confirm that they are PS2 games for this region and try a DVD to see if that will play. If the DVD does not play it is probably your DVD drive that is broken
