on a 2000 intrigue; car does not shift into 3rd gear or 4th gear. 1st 2nd gear ok
The vehicle manual usually says what speeds to do in which gears.
When the shifting linkage is disconnected the car will appear to go into gear but not move. The car will not move when the transmission fluid is low.
It depends on the gearing of the car. If you are in the highest gear and 40mph in that gear is under the idle rpm of that car than you will stall.
Well hopefully your not going from 5th gear speeds stright to 1st... but go to a tranny shop and explain the problem
To get higher speeds, thesecond gear has a lower gear ratio as the first one, so youre speed raises with the same rpm. The same for the 3rd/4th/5th/6th gear.
It would shorten the life span of the engine some.
Common cars can't do highway speeds (65 mph) in first gear and many have rev limiters.
I am having the same problem and have not taking the car to the shop yet
When your car doesnt move anywhere when its in gear just like any other transmission
The transmission has to have the lower speeds with more torque to get the car moving. They are put on the gear shift so that if needed they can be used. Getting out of mud or snow, you use first or second so that the wheels will not spin as easily and keep traction.
They are known for their high speeds, low-gear pull, and high climbing ability. They are seen as the only stock U.S. car of its time that could elicit a sports car performance.
"Overdrive" is the top gear of the transmission allowing the vehicle to be driven at higher speeds while the engine revolutions are kept low--increasing fuel economy. (the higher the gear the more speed, but less power).
