since the arctic is so cold, there isn't enough moisture to precipitate. usually the arctic only receives around a foot of snow per year. This is why the Arctic is considered a desert.

Two main reasons:

1) The South Pole is on top of a mountain of ice, while the North Pole is roughly at sea level.

2) The South Pole is in a continent.

Lets make one thing very clear, the South Pole does not sit on top of a mountain.

See the Related Link for a USGS Image of Antarctica and you will notice that the mountains are some distance from the South Pole.

It is these mountains that causes the South Pole to be at a high elevation because of centuries worth of accumulation of ice.

The South Pole does not melt because Santa Clause's half brother Robert lives there and that is waht he wishes for every Christmas. And since he is Santa's brother he HAS to get what he wants. But it is a good thing that he isnt selfish or he could have anything in the UNIVERSE but he is content with havind the South Pole frozen. and that is how we discovered chocolate.

because the south pole and the north pole are the furthest away from the equator. the closer you are to the equator the hotter it is, the further you go away from the equator the colder it gets.

Snowfall is rare in the South Pole because the air in that region is sinking and dry.

How much snow is there in Antarctica compared to Arctic?

The Arctic is a sea bed: Antarctica is a continent, and a desert with less than five percent humidity. Snow in the Arctic collects on sea ice or melts when it falls into the Arctic Ocean. There is no snow in Antarctica, rather ice crystals that blow in the constant wind.
