The release actuator probably sheared the rod off. Common thing with GM vehicles.
There are two fuse boxes in a 1995 De ville, one is in the trunk on the drivers side next to the trunk release and the other is under the hood driver's side by the wiper fluide bottle. It maybe under the back seat. The battery is under the back seat in our 2001 cadillac.
Access the speakers through the trunk. Under the rear deck you can see the magnet of the speakers. I think they just unscrew out from there.

The 1997 Cadillac trunk fuse location is dependent upon the type and model of the Cadillac. The trunk fuse will be in the fuse box. The location should be listed on the inside cover of the fuse box.
While in the auto open the glove box. With the ignition switch turned on press the yellow button inside to the left of the glove box. It should release the trunk lid. If it does not the trunk release or the wiring to it may be bad.

The cadillac catera did not come out with a key for the trunk its all electronic so if your battery is dead there is a release lever in the trunk on the trunk lid.
