Oh, - - - we don't go around DESTROYING stuff. Once we start doing graffiti; or defacing things; -- guess who gets influenced? Our children. They figure if adults can do it, they they go around doing 'defacing' and stuff. Not good.
Makes me think of Christmas, with all the adults lying to children about Santa bringing the gifts. Then they wonder why their kids lie to the parents later in their teens. Duh.
I guess we figure: What's done -- is done! It's the past. We didn't know how pagan the cross was at that time -- but now we do, so we don't do it anymore. I wonder why you-alls still worship the pagan cross. When will you catch up with us?
Maybe this will explain from a different angle: In their past, many of JWs did bad things, before they became JWs. They may have worked at a military weapons factory, or invented some computer software that the military uses. Now they're a JW. But they won't be going around and destroying any weapon they see; or trying to hack and mess up the software they invented. The past - - - is the past. We leave it alone. But we make the necessary changes in 'the now', and in the future.
Actually, there is no cross on Russell's grave; there is a cross on the pyramid monument that was constructed several years after Russell died. That pyramid monument, however, is not Russell's grave; there is no one buried in or under the monument that Rutherford authorized to be constructed in the middle of the WTS plots in the Rosemont Cemetery.
We don't engage in relic worship or honor the murder weapon that took Jesus life. He wasn't executed on a cross either, but on a stake.
Witnesses
No, according to the publication "Jehovah's Witnesses Porclaimers of God's kingdom" pub. 1993 p. 200:"For years, Bible Students wore a cross and crown as a badge of identification, and this symbol was on the front cover of the "Watch Tower" from 1891 to 1931. But in 1928 it was emphasized that not a decorative symbol but one's activity as a witness showed he was a Christian. In 1936 it was pointed out that the evidence indicates that Christ died on a stake, not a two-beamed cross."
