Mormon women may do what they like with their hair. The Church only asks that members avoid 'extreme hairstyles'. What is 'extreme' is up for individual interpretation.

Most of the top female leaders in the Church have short hair. Check out the "Related Links" below to see images of typical Mormon women and their hair.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'Mormon' church) do cut their hair. The church has no guidelines about women cutting their hair. The church only asks that its members keep their hair clean and neat and avoid extreme hairstyles.

Perhaps you are thinking of the FLDS women? The FLDS left the Mormon church over 100 years ago. They typically do not cut their hair but wear it long and braided. This is mostly based on custom although some have said that it is because they believe righteous women will wash the feet of Jesus with their long hair, and also because of 1 Corinthans 11:15, which says "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering."
