Why do people not like vegetables?

Sometimes people simply don't like fruits and vegetables, but often our American diet is simply not fruit or veggie-centric. If you look at most restaurant menus, you'll notice that the entrees are primarily meat or grain based: "BEEF STEAK" "CHICKEN BREAST" "PASTA DISH" "Pizza" "SANDWICH" "HAMBURGER" Fruits and vegetables are essentially an after thought in most dishes. The salads served in many restaurants tend to consist of little more than iceberg lettuce (one of the least nutritious vegetables) and a few tomatoes. They're also slathered in so much cheese, croutons, and dressing that you'd end up consuming many times more calories from the extras than the vegetables themselves. Fruits and vegetables also haven't been extensively packaged in ready-to-eat forms. There are rows and rows of "open and eat" lunch meats, cheeses, cereals, granola bars, crackers and the like, but just a handful of easy to consume, fresh fruit or vegetable options. Most fruits or vegetables require washing and peeling, perhaps chopping, steaming or boiling to really enjoy. The lack of convience in preparation probably also deters consumption.

Everyone has their own reasons. Some were stubborn as children and now won't admit that vegetables are tasty. Some have never been exposed to many vegetables, Some were forced to eat vegetables they didn't like or that were poorly prepared. Since vegetables started getting commercially farmed and shipped all over the country both quality and flavor have suffered. This has only aided in increasing the number of people who dislike vegetable.
