Some people still do live in castles (see link). Most castles are preserved as historic landmarks instead of private residences. Castles are not comfortable places to live, nowadays, because they are hard to heat and the upkeep is expensive.

∙ 14y agoCastles were built for defence purposes only, not because of architectural beauty or for the latest trend in housing.In the face of attack a castle or fort,being built on the highest point around was fairly easy to defend from the ramparts looking down on badly disadvantaged forces attacking uphill. Arrows and boiling oil had a
tendency to put any would-be attacker off.The rapidly developing science of Ballistics that took place from the 16th century on soon took care of that.Cannons were becoming quite accurate and powerful by now,and they got better all the time.Castles were now a death trap,if you hid in those you would get blown apart with the rest of the castle.Little wonder they lost favour.

Medival castles do still exist in various places around the world. They are not being constructed in this age, but remain as historical landmarks. There are quite a few types of castles around the world including: Motte and bailey castles, Stone castles, square keep castles etc...
