It depends on the state you reside in to determine if you are an adult at 17. In Missouri, you ARE an adult at 17. Additionally, it is stupid to state that a person has no rights just because they are not an adult. This IS NOT TRUE!!!! EVERYONE has rights guaranteed and secured by the constitution, and this includes children, juveniles and adolescences. You must check with your individual state to see what your legal rights are .

Generally speaking, all US citizens regardless of age are given the same rights granted by the US constitution and bill of rights. The only difference between being a minor (persons under 18) versus an adult (persons 18 and older) is that your parents have the right to evoke or revoke your rights.

In the US, parents have no rights over an adult child unless that adult child has been declared mentally incompetent by the court and the parents were appointed guardians as a result of that.
