Lava, poison gas, earthquakes, very hot temperatures. A person can die very easily living next to a volcano. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed by volcanoes. Krakatoa and Pompeii are two of the most deadly volcanoes in history. People do not want to live in a place that can kill them, such as living too near a volcano.

Living near a volcano is dangerous, because volcanoes can cause earthquakes, either severe or minor. The volcanoes can also erupt any moment, without warning. When it does erupt, it erupts hot magma(lava), ash, pumice, and also gives out poisonous gases. Volcanoes also can have gas leaks, which can kill animals, plants, and humans nearby.

Volcanoes are dangerous to people because:

1. Depending on how explosive the eruption is (which depends on the magma type), and depending on how close a city is to a volcano, the lava (which flows slowly) could burn and set things on fire.

2. The ash could block off the sun, destroying crops and food.

3. If the ash and gases released were breathed in, it could cause lung cancer.

4. Homes can be destroyed. Transportation like airplanes or cars can't be used because the ash would clog the engine and it would stop working.

5. The pyroclastic flow would kill people instantly (inside the flow is intense heat that would burn things alive)

Why people shouldn't live near volcanoes?

Well you wouldn't want to live near a volcano would you? Its quite obvious volcanoes erupt hot lava/magma which burns everything in its path, including people. People do live near volcanoes though, but they live near dormant or extinct volcanoes and have warnings before erruptions and are usually able to escape if they keep calm. Back to why you shouldn't live near them. The areas around volcanoes have a more likely chance of an earthquake. Also the areas around volcanoes that have erupted before is often "black" and bare. Volcanoes release poisonous gases too.

Do volcanoes have myths and legends?

No, but the people who live around them usually do.
