It's never explicitly said in the books, as far as I can remember, but it's a good question—Muggles can't really hurt them, seeing as they're wizards and all. I always figured it had to do with not wanting to freak the Muggles out, and at this point, they're pretty stuck in their ways.
Muggles
Muggle is the word used in the Harry Potter series of books by J. K. Rowling to refer to a person who lacks any sort of magical ability and was not born into the magical world
If they're first years, then their parents probably know how to get into Diagon Alley. If they're Muggle-born, then someone from the school (probably Hagrid) would go with them.
No they don't because witches dont exist and they might've done that if they were crazy like 3000 years ago.

Yes, i believe in witches to this very day! i bet your a witch...please dont kill me! :(
No to be a wizard you would have to be able to preform magic. the "magic" we know is just an illusion, therefore You cant really be a wizard. correction, magic is only an illussion if your someone like chris angel or dave copperfield (magician) in fact, everyones a wizard. they are just considered muggles cause they dont believe magic. you have to believe magic to be a wizard.
