The reason was to avoid any confusion, mixing, or doubt about the authenticity of Quran verses that were collected, written, memorised by heart immediately upon their revelation by God to prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Cross checking Hadith meaning/teachings with Quran is not wrong as if it happens to contradict, then this is a good evidence that the Hadith is false one and that it is not truly narrated from the prophet (PBUH).
