The sajdas are at the places in Quran where Allah mentions that he wreaked and punished several people and supernatural creations because they were proud and arrogant. So by bowing in front of Allah after reciting every such verse, the reader of quran gives a gesture that he is not at all proud and that he considers Allah as the supreme being. Thus the sajdas are symbolic in depicting our humbleness before Allah. ---- The quran has 14 sajdah (some scholars say 15), And it is not true that it always comes after a verse were Allah(God) swt punished someone. The reason seems to be given in surah bani Israel 17:107-109 107. Say: "Whether ye believe in it or not, it is true that those who were given knowledge beforehand, when it is recited to them, fall down on their faces in humble prostration, 108. "And they say: 'Glory to our Lord! Truly has the promise of our Lord been fulfilled!'" 109. "They fall down on their faces in tears, and it increases their (earnest) humility." The 15 Sajdah in the quran are : 1 Al A'Raf 7:206

Al Ra'd 13:15

Al Nahl 16:50

Bani Israil 17:109

Maryam 19:58

Al Haj 22;18

Al Haj 22:77 Shafi

Al Farqan 25:60

Al Naml 27:26

As Sajdah 32:15

Sa'd 38:24 Hanafi

Hamim Sajdah 41:38

Al-Najm 53:62

Inshiqaq 84:21

Al Alaq 96:19
